I met Freddy and Ann on their day of arrival in Cape Town. My brother Robert, as well as Brian Aldridge toured them through the Cape Peninsula and Hermanus. I took the tour over on 28 February and the below pictures tell it all. This was a fabulous tour where we saw much, ate too much J and had an amazing amount of wonderful fun.
28 February 2002 - Thursday
While
traveling down to Oudtshoorn I took this photo of Freddy and Ann in Swellendam
where we stopped over for something to eat at lunchtime.
We stayed over at Oudtshoorn in the lovely guesthouse "Shades of Africa" Here we see Leon, the owner of the guesthouse talking to Freddy
Freddy certainly seems to be enjoying the Shades of Africa breakfast.

We travelled up the
Swartberg Mountains and took this photo from the top of the mountain

When we go to the bottom of the pass we took this photo.
Freddy posing for a photo in the stream at the bottom of the Swartberg Mountains.
At the bottom of the Swartberg Mountains we stopped in at Prince Albert. Here we see Freddy and Ann buying mohair products at the Prince of Africa giftshop.
We had lunch at Uit en Rus in Prince Albert. The two Labradors might be able to convey how hot it was in Prince Albert. J

On leaving Prince Albert we travelled through Meiringspoort where I took this photo of Freddy.
After our journey over the Swartberge we travelled on to Overmeer Guesthouse in Knysna where we met Ludwig and Riette Fechter, the owners of the guesthouse.
That night we joined Abdel and Sandy Rahmani for dinner at the La Loerie restaurant.
1 March 2002 - Friday
Safari day
We travelled past the Wilderness and George and eventually to Botlierskop Game Farm. Hentie, the game ranger on the farm, then took Ann and Freddy out on a 3 hour game drive.
Freddy and Ann all prepared for the safari adventure

On returning from the game drive we had lunch at the farm and took this panoramic picture from the restaurant on the farm.
After returning from Botlierskop we took it easy at Overmeer and that night we went to Changes restaurant where we took the above photo.
2 March 2002 - Friday
On this day we travelled further southeast and went to Plettenburg Bay , Bloukrans Valley and Natures Valley.

We took this panoramic photo while visiting Plettenberg Bay
We stopped in at Old Nicks for tea and eventually lunch too.
We took the following 2 photographs at Old Nicks.
We then travelled through the Bloukrans Valley as well as Natures Valley

Freddy and Ann admiring the huge Bloukrans bridge

It took an enormous amount of persuasion on my behalf to stop the 2 adventurers from doing this bungy jump. JJ
On returning to Knysna we visited the Knysna Waterfront where we took the above picture

In the evening we visited the Lake
Pleasant Hotel for dinner.
From the picture it seems as if Ann wishes she had chosen what Freddy had
elected to eat. JJ
3 March 2002 - Friday
On our last day together we spent the day traveling around the Knysna area. In the evening Freddy and Ann opted to want to return to La Loerie restaurant where we took the below picture.
Freddy and Ann were such easy ladies to travel with. They were always game to try anything and were pretty adventurous in their attitude. We all had a marvellous time together and all in all I feel that they left our shores with the knowledge that we live in a very special country.

A HUGE, HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU BOTH
From
Robert, Selwyn and Brian.
Received 9 March 2002
Dear Selwyn
How very thoughtful of you to send a 'welcome home' message. We had an excellent journey apart from one piece of Ann's luggage going astray in Dubai. Happily it has now been restored to her! The photos you included have given so much pleasure and it is wonderful to be able to relive some of those great experiences so easily, as well as to share them with my friends. We rather envy your current guests and can imagine what a wonderful trip you are giving them. It all more than exceeded our expectations and I think that you and Rob and Brian can expect that you will be firmly on the Cyprus map now. We hope to join you again and have some more magical South African moments, not forgetting the wine and the food!
Thank you very much for it all.
Kind regards
Freddy and Ann
