DAY 2

CULTURAL TOUR

29 July 2011

I collected Craig and Tim at the Glen Boutique hotel and we set off on our cultural tour of the winelands and Kayamandi.

We started our day with a visit to Middelvlei winefarm where Althea gave us the opportunity to taste Pinotage and other wines.

After visiting Middelvlei we took a short tour of the town of Stellenbosch. After our tour we visited the Peacock where we had a wonderful light snack cheese lunch. While enjoying our snack we took time to go through the history of South Africa so as to be fully prepared for our visit to the township of Kayamandi.

Listening to Lily's life story as well as enjoying her traditional food.

Enjoying Lily's spread of food.

With Lily and her famous stove at "Once upon a stove guesthouse."

After our visit to Lily we went on a walk through Zone J where we met a number of people and handed out fruit in exchange for trash to the children of the area. As Craig and Tim had an appointment to keep that evening in Cape Town we returned to the city soon thereafter.

Touring with Craig and Tim was a wonderful experience. Together we gained much from one another and overall our travel experience was a fulfilling one.  Amongst others Tim had been to the recent international education conference held in Cape Town and I really appreciated his thoughts about this experience as well as anything revolving around the subject. Craig would not let a word go by him without thinking about what was said and on numerous occasions was the spark that started off the discussion of some very interesting subjects revolving around Cape Town and its surrounds as well as similarities between my city and places in the USA. Overall this was a fabulous tour with two tremendous guys.

Thanks for our great journey together Craig and Tim.
