I met Diane, Laurie and Karen at Craigrownie guesthouse and together we travelled to Cape Town international airport to fetch Janet, Brenda and Robin who due to their cases not being found on an air Botswana flight the day before only arrived in Cape Town on the morning of the 14th. After becoming acquainted with all in the group we set off on a trip to Hermanus.

Laurie, Robin, Brenda. Karen, Diane and Janet enjoying the fabulous False Bay view en-route to Hermanus

We stopped in at the Bay Beach Hotel in Kleinmond for coffee where to the delight of the group they did some shopping in the curios store in the hotel.

We arrived in Hermanus and started whale watching as the above picture shows. We saw some whales frolicking in Walker Bay however they all were reasonably far from the shoreline and for some or other reason there unfortunately were not to many whales showing their faces on the day.

I simply had to take this group photo at this sign in Hermanus which translated from Afrikaans means young ladies corner

We met Wilson the whale crier of Hermanus

Robin, Laurie and Brenda on the rocks at Severs Point

We certainly enjoyed watching the big waves at Severs Point

We travelled to Voelkip (Bird rock) beach where we unfortunately could not find any whales. We moved on to the local Pick and Pay where the group bought some provisions to have with them in the guesthouse. Thereafter we left Hermanus and travelled straight on to Craigrownie where the group decided to have a cheese style dinner at the guesthouse.

Day 3

16 August 2005

This day proved to be one with rather poor weather as it was storming and windy throughout the Cape Town region. After much debate I dropped the group of 6 ladies off at the Waterfront to do some shopping while I travelled with Robert and Nancy to the Mount Nelson Hotel as well as on a short tour of the city centre.

At lunchtime we met the "Group of 6" at the Waterfront and whereafter we all went for lunch to Cafe Paradiso in the Higgovale area.

After a great lunch we went to District 6 where we discussed the relevance of the area to the history of Cape Town and South Africa. After our visit to District 6 we returned to Craigrownie.

A great picture taken on Chapmans Peak to end a wonderful day

This group of 8 Texans was an interesting and wonderful group to tour with. There were times when we had our differences as to what to do on each day but overall everything worked out for the best in the end. We experienced much of Cape Town and its surrounds and if one considers the weather at the time we achieved quite a lot. Much discussion took place about South Africa in the tour bus which all led to an interesting tour. I also have to thank Robert for "coercing" me to go out touring on the Wednesday as it led to me enjoying my first ever view of 4 waterfalls coming off on Table Mountain. JJ
