Having travelled with Gillian in the past this was a happy get together visit in Kayamandi while Gillian and Leigh were staying in Stellenbosch
Leigh and Gillian listening to Lily while she tells them her life story
Listening to the children singing at Nosandile's home
With the children at Nosandiles shack/home
The young girl in the middle dressed in orange is Liesl while the girl on Gillian's lap in a white top is Nandi
In our talking to the children we found out that Nandi was in her first year at school while Liesl, aged 5, was not at pre-primary school as yet because her mother could not afford to pay for her schooling. It was very obvious that Liesl was very dissappointed by this. Then the miracle took place in that Gillian and Leigh decided to sponsor Liesl for the 2006 year of her pre-primary schooling. I wish the world could have seen Liesl's face when we told he what was happening as she was fully aware of what this all meant when we did so - She simply glowed with joy. JJJ
Needless to say the happy event of Liesl's schooling necessitated many pictures JJJ

Enjoying the "fruit for trash" experience with the kids of Kayamandi.
It was absolutely wonderful to meet up with Gillain once again as well as to meet Leigh. Our afternoon together in Kayamandi was a wonderful experience which was all crowned by the fact that Liesl will now have schooling in 2006 due to the wonderful generosity of these two generous Scottish lasses. Who knows one day when Liesl hopefully is a qualified professional she will look back at this website and smile with joy!
A HUGE, HUGE THANKS
GILLIAN and LEIGH.
Our journey home was fine with no problems at all however it was with heavy hearts that we left Cape Town. We had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. We both agreed that our visit to Kayamandi was a highlight of our trip. I believe that some times things are meant to be and I think we were there at just the right time to meet Liesl. We are delighted to be her sponsors for the next year and look forward to hearing how she progresses at nursery school.
I had a quick chat with Shona at the weekend and she will bring the
sponsorship money to you in March. She is now even more excited about her trip and she hasnt yet seen the pictures!!
Thank you for taking us with you to Kayamandi last week and for introducing us to Lily and all your friends. The people of the township are truelly a great example to us all on how to be good neighbours, to live without bitterness and to value what you have. For me its a humbling experience to meet these people who have such little possessions but rich lives.
I'll be in touch with you soon.
Thank you again for a great time and I hope to see you again very soon!
