I met Burt and Eileen at their place of stay in Cape Town viz The Holiday Inn on Strand Street and spending some time getting to know each we set off on a Cape Peninsula tour.

With Eileen haveing and interest in Willaim Shakespeare we stopped in at the Maynardville open air theater in Wynberg

While travelling through Kalk Bay we had a light snack at the Money Tree cafe.

Were off to see the penguins! JJ

On our second day we toured the city and travelled to Clara Anna Fontein

The Coopers outside the Mount Nelson Hotel

Guess what the Coopers were in Cape Town! The mountain in the background proves this point. JJ

On our way to Clara Anna Fontein we captured this very unusual photo of Table Mountain as see across the sprawling fields of yellow lupens

We had a lunch at Clara Anna Fontein and as can be seen Burt enjoyed the dessert

We travelled on the game farm and amongst others saw eland, zebra, oryx, springbok, reebok, wildebeest, bontebok and ostrich. All in all a great afternoon was had by all.

On returning to Cape Town we did the ascent of Table Mountain

Eileen did a pretty good Titanic imitation atop the mountain

After leaving Table Mountain we went down into the city and had a great African Feast at the Africa Cafe.

On our third we did a Cape Winelands tour

At the Afrikaans language monument

We stopped in at Hazendal where Eileen had the opportunity to enjoy the Faberge' eggs on display.

After our stop at Hazendal we travelled to Bellevue wine estate where Burt enjoyed tasting some of the great Pinotage on the farm

We travelled on to Kayamandi where the below pictures were taken

After our visit to Kayamandi we travelled into Stellenbosch and had a wonderful fish dinner at the Ocean Basket Restaurant before we returned to Cape Town and had to unfortunately say goodbye to one another.

Burt and Eileen were lovely people to travel with. They were down to earth type folk who enjoyed all around them as we travelled through the Cape Town and Winelands region. We had a great 3 days together and I know that I enjoyed the whole event just as much as I suspect that this wonderful mother and son duo did.

THANKS BURT AND EILEEN

Received 2 September 2004

Hi Selwyn,

Just a brief note to let you know that my mother and I returned safely to our respective homes. We are both grateful to you for showing us such a wonderful time during our stay in Cape Town .  You are indeed the best tour guide I have encountered during my travels. I particularly admire your work in the Township. Our visit there was one of the highlights of our trip. You are blessed to live in such a beautiful city.

If I may impose; we both look forward to receiving (when you find the time) the photos you took during our days of touring. Would you email them to me, or post to Ofoto so we could purchase them?

I am encouraging my colleagues to visit South Africa , and Cape Town in particular.

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and friendship.

Burt
