I met Tip and Vicki at the Cape Grace Hotel. After getting to know each other we set off on our journey into the Cape Winelands. Tip and Vicki were in Cape Town to join an insurance travel group and would be touring in the city for a couple of days after we had completed our tour. The object of our tour together would be to cover the areas that they would not see with their group tour.

Day 1

We started off our journey by traveling to the Winelands. On the way I took this photo at Plattekloof where we see the Huffmans in front of the whole of the Cape Town greater region.

We travelled on to the Afrikaans language monument where I took the above photo.

We first stopped in at Cotage Fromage for a wonderful cheese lunch and then moved on to Kayamandi in Stellenbosch where I took the next couple of pictures.

On leaving Kayamandi we toured the town of Stellenbosch as well as the university area where I took the below picture of Tip at the Coetzenberg sports fields of the University

On returning to Cape Town we stopped in at the Ocean Basket in Kloof Street where we had a wonderful fish dinner.

Day 2

We started out our day by traveling back to Stellenbosch where I dropped some toys off in Kayamandi. Thereafter we moved on to the Rust en Vrede winefarm

On our way we stopped at the Zetlers strawberry farm where I could not resist wanting to make scarecrows out of Tip and Vicki. JJJ

We travelled on to Hermanus and I took this picture at Koeelbaai along the way.

We stopped in for some delicious pancakes at a caravan vender in Kleinmond

We went to the Beach House Hotel for a light lunch before moving on to Hermanus.

After traveling around Hermanus and exploring the town (unfortunately we saw no whales) we started making our way back to Cape Town. We travelled through the wonderful region of Grabouw with the scenery being breathtaking on the day.

In Franschhoek we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Delicious before making our way back to the Cape Grace.

Day 3

We started our day with a tour of the city of Cape Town.

We arrived at the Lion Battery at noon so as to witness the firing of the Noon Gun.

We decided to ascend Table Mountain even though Tip and Vicki were scheduled to do so with their tour group the following day. We took this decision because the weather report said that it would be raining the next day and that would have made the ascent of the mountain impossible for the group. Thank heavens we made this move as it did rain and had we not done so Tip and Vicki would have missed ascending and seeing Table Mountain completely.

On our way back to the city we stopped in at Camps Bay and eventually Maidens Cove where I took this picture of Tip and Vicki with the 12 Apostles in the background.

We moved on to the Mount Nelson Hotel for high tea where I took this picture of Tip investigating the high tea food table. JJ

After high tea I took Tip and Vicki back to the Cape Grace so as to meet the other members of their group and where we also had to unfortunately bade each other farewell.

What a fabulous tour this was. Tip and Vicki were so easy to travel with. They both were such wonderful personalities and touring with them was an absolute delight. I really believe that their attitude made up for so much as to why this tour was such a memorable one. We shared so much of ourselves as well as had lots of fun along the way with a final recipe being that we truly had a great and marvellous tour  together.

Thanks a ton Tip and Vicki.

Selwyn,

Vicki and I were really touched by the work you put into the album on the web for us. We have so many memories that are only with us because of the special efforts that you put forth. You have placed South Africa in a special part of our hearts. It is a place we will always be able to go to with warm memories. You too are a part of that special place. Thank you so much for sharing so much with us.

With love,

Tip and Vicki

Hello Selwyn,

We arrived back in LA on Friday right on Schedule. Our tour with the Old Mutual Group was very interesting, and we got to see many things. I'll write you again soon and tell you all about our tour with them. The card and pictures arrived and are greatly appreciated. You are absolutely correct in the way our tour together felt. It was very much like traveling as a family. Vicki and I have talked about the chemistry and it was as if we had met with a very good friend or brother that was showing us and educating us about South Africa. Your love of the area and knowledge is something that Vicki and I will always treasure. Our home is always open to you and we hope that one day your travels will bring you to Southern California. I am getting caught up here at work and will write more to you about our additional travels soon. Much love comes right back at you from Southern California.

All my best,

Tip
