I met this brother and sister duo at their apartment in the Waterfront and we set off on a cultural journey through the Cape Winelands and Kayamandi

Rick and Jean at the Afrikaans language monument near to Paarl

After our visit to the Afrikaans language monument we travelled onto Stellenbosch where we did a driving tour through the wonderful town before moving onto Kayamandi

We joined Lily in her Kayamandi home for a traditional Xhosa lunch whereafter Lily told us her life story

Jean, Lily and Rick with some children who wanted to join in for our picture in front of Lily's home.

We visited the Ikamva Lethu centre where we enjoyed watching the children going through their dancing practice

Asemeya and Wendy - A young duo of friends we met in Zone J

Jean handing out apples in exchange for a bag of trash as part of the "trash for fruit" programme.

Before leaving Kayamandi we stopped in at the local Methodist Church where we enjoyed some time listening and watching the church choir in action.

It was fantastic to tour with Jean and Rick. The only pity was that we had one day together as I would have loved to have spent more time with this very interesting brother and sister duo. Together we had much fun with lots being interchanged between us all while on tour. All in all a great day was had by all. A big thanks go to Debby and Roy Silver for introducing me to to these 2 wonderful people.

THANKS A TON FOR SUCH A WONDERFUL DAY RICK AND JEAN

Selwyn,

Thanks for the great tour - and for the terrific pictures! Hope to see you again - and that I'm wrong about the world collapsing beneath us.

Rick.

Thank YOU so much, Selwyn. Our day with you was the highlight of our trip. I was so moved by our time in Kayamandi. Please give our love and thanks to Lily.

Thanks also for the photos on your website. I got some good ones myself and would be happy to share a few with you, if you'd like. However, I know you have plenty of your own! I'll never forget our time together and I hope we'll meet again.

Love, Jean
